Music and recording studios for rent in Singapore
Recording studios, rehearsal rooms and vocal booths by the hour: rooms where volume is expected rather than tolerated.
Recording, rehearsing and a room with a piano are three different bookings
The music tag covers all three and they share almost nothing. A recording studio has treatment, isolation and a control position, and it is the scarcest of the three. A rehearsal room has a PA, a kit and walls that survive both, and is what most bands actually want. Then comes the largest group: ordinary rooms tagged for music because the host permits amplified sound: dance studios with a speaker, function rooms with an upright piano. Purpose-built music studios are a small minority of this page. That is fine if you are rehearsing or teaching, and a serious problem if you arrived expecting a tracking room.
How to tell real isolation from carpet on a wall
Foam and carpet absorb reflections inside a room. They do almost nothing to stop sound leaving it. Isolation comes from mass and from a break in the structure: a heavy door with a proper seal, a floated floor, a room within a room, a lobby with two doors instead of one. Photographs show you the treatment; only the host and the reviews tell you about the leakage. If you are tracking, ask directly what is on the other side of each wall. If you are rehearsing loudly, the same question is what protects you from the neighbour who complains at nine and ends your session.
Whose gear, and in what condition
Very little is safe to assume. Some rooms include a full backline, a kit and mics in the hourly rate; some include the room and nothing else; some list an engineer as a paid add-on and many have no engineer at all. Pianos are the sharpest case. An upright that is in the room is not the same as an upright that has been tuned this year, and asking is entirely reasonable before you book it for a recording or an exam. Bring your own cables, adaptors and headphones regardless. They are the items that go missing from shared rooms and the ones that end a session when they are absent.
Rates, minimums and the hours worth hunting for
Hourly rates run from about twenty dollars for a small room to a hundred and seventy-five for a treated studio, clustering in the mid-fifties. Minimums are longer here than in other categories because setup is real work; two hours is common for a band room. Late slots are the ones to chase. Inventory sits around Bugis, Chinatown, Promenade, Bencoolen and Outram Park, in buildings where the neighbouring units are shut by evening, which is precisely when a loud rehearsal is least likely to attract a complaint.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a recording studio per hour in Singapore?
Most music spaces sit around fifty-five dollars an hour, with small rehearsal rooms nearer twenty and treated recording studios running past a hundred and seventy. Minimum bookings are longer in this category, so check the minimum as well as the rate.
Is an engineer included when I book a studio?
Usually not. A booking gets you the room and whatever gear the listing names. Where a host offers an engineer it is stated as an add-on with its own price, so assume you are self-operating unless the space says otherwise.
Can a full band rehearse with drums?
In rooms set up for it, yes. Filter for a space that lists a drum kit and a PA, then read what the host says about volume. A room that permits amplified music is not necessarily a room that permits a kit at full tilt.
Is there a soundproof room for recording a podcast?
Several spaces are quiet enough for spoken word, which is a far lower bar than tracking a band. Look for a small treated room or a booth, ask what the air-conditioning sounds like while running, and check the reviews for noise complaints.
Can I rent a room with a piano?
Yes, pianos are listed in the amenities on the spaces that have one. Ask when it was last tuned before booking it for a recording or exam practice: the listing can confirm an instrument exists, not that it is in tune.
Can I book a music studio late at night?
Often. Many music spaces run late and some are self-check-in, and evenings are when the neighbouring units are empty. Operating hours and access arrangements are on each listing.
